About Jim

Jim Doty is a published freelance photographer. His landscape, event, portrait, and commercial photography has been published in books, magazines (including several magazine covers), tourism brochures, calendars, and on web sites for corporations and nonprofit organizations.  His first full length book, Digital Photography Exposure for Dummies, is now in print. Jim is also an experienced photography instructor and field trip leader. He is available to do portrait and commercial photography, as well as photograph special events.

He has 17 years experience teaching photography, including 7 years on the faculty of the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts. He is on the faculty for Ohio State University's Stone Laboratory summer sessions, and will be teaching at Graceland University in Iowa in January 2012. You can check out his upcoming teaching events and you can book one of his workshops for your photography club or group. For photographers who want the maximum amount of growth in a concentrated period of time, Jim is available for individual instruction.

About This Site

The links at the top and bottom of each page take you to the major site sections.  This site began as a result of Jim's photography classes and workshops so many of the images in the Photos section have some comments about where or how they were taken. They will help you find a particular location or cover important photographic principles. Learn is the section to go to to learn more about photography. It has a major subsection devoted to Digital Photography. To send Jim an e-mail, go to Contact.

This site in its current form was created June 25, 2000. At the bottom of most pages you will find the date the page was originally created and/or the date it was updated.
